Jeff Goldblum’s Key to Diet, Exercise and Life

Life

The seemingly ageless Wicked actor is both handsome and fit at age 72 in part to his outlook on life. “If I have a mantra in my life, if I aspire to anything, it’s to learn from nature and be part of nature—and do the best with the nature I have,” he said.

He was introduced to this attitude, which he admits could mean anything, by his acting teacher Sandy Meisner. He writes that “one of the things it can mean is not fighting the ageing process”.

Diet

As part of this approach, he eats a diet that feels natural to him and it happens to be very healthy. “I like fruits and vegetables and whole grains and lean protein.”

On top of eating antioxidant-rich fruit and vegetables, he also keeps away from unnatural junk food and drinking, which both increases the risk of death (mortality), and the ageing process. “I’ve come not to enjoy the stuff I’ve cut out: sugary stuff, fatty stuff, fried stuff. I’m not a big drinker. I don’t like the taste, and it has no appeal to me. In general, I avoid things that make me buzzy. I’m plenty buzzy as is.”

Exercise

The actor also enjoys sports such as tennis and lifts weights to maintain his svelte proportions. “We have a gym set up here and when I’m on the road I find something. I’ve done bodybuilding stuff where you split the program. One day is legs, the other day is chest. And I’ve worked hard at it. These days, I start with some treadmill and do some cardio and warm things up and then do a circuit of free weights and machines that gets every part of the body, all the muscle groups. And I do it in this way, really quite quickly, where I really enjoy it. I do that and finish up with some more cardio and stretching. I do that every day. And then, if I can get my steps, I get my steps.”

In 2014 he married his current wife, Emilie Goldblum (nee Livingston), who is a contortionist turned fitness guru and 31 years his junior. She no doubt has had a major influence in his approach to exercise and fitness. With 2 young children, 9 and 7, we’re sure Mr. Goldblum plans on being around for as long as possible.
